Nonprofit Board Consulting to Fortify Your Leadership Team
Aly Sterling Philanthropy helps you assess, strengthen and energize your board members to meet and overcome the challenges of today…and tomorrow.
Our board and leadership development approach optimizes your board’s performance. We’ll help your board lead effectively, have meaningful experiences with your organization and make transformational contributions to your nonprofit.
The Aly Sterling Philanthropy Board and Leadership Development Approach
Our nonprofit board consulting focuses on the five board governance components that are the foundation for all effective board work:
- Purpose. We’ll clarify your expectations of board members and their responsibilities. Additionally, we’ll help you build proper governance by working with you to develop bylaws, policies, job descriptions and financial reports.
- Education. Our consultants will help you prepare your board members for effective service through orientation, onboarding, training, mentoring, ongoing development and education on mission-related trends.
- Architecture. We’ll analyze your current board and identify gaps in demographics or skill areas via a board skills matrix. Then, we’ll help you recruit and select new members with diverse skills and perspectives to build a board that serves your needs. We’ll also identify ways to keep former board members invested and involved in your organization.
- Results. We recommend that all organizations conduct leadership evaluations at least every other year. Our consultants use four key evaluations to assess your board’s effectiveness and partnership with leadership staff. We’ll also help you measure and communicate organizational impact so you can strengthen your case for support.
- Leadership. Our nonprofit board consultants will empower you to develop strong, proactive succession plans that keep your board running smoothly. Plus, we’ll create officer and committee chair job descriptions so organizational leaders understand their roles. Additionally, if you don’t have one already, we’ll help you develop a strategic plan to guide your nonprofit’s work as it evolves and grows.
Using national best practices and working closely with your leadership, our nonprofit board consultants will:
Provide a comprehensive evaluation of all elements of the board’s work, including infrastructure, committee work and board dynamics.
Develop a detailed board work plan while reviewing and refining supporting policies and procedures.
Help you implement new practices and serve as an accountability partner for ongoing change.
Your board’s role is more complex and critical to your organization’s success than ever.
As the ultimate keeper of the mission, your board must continuously ensure your organization has sustainable resources and strong leadership. This responsibility requires a new style and mode of governance.
Is your board engaged, equipped and ready to serve in this capacity?
“Our board and organization are where they are today because of your direction. I was giving you kudos tonight on our board matrix. We have formed our entire board using that matrix, and it was such a simple thing that you directed me to put together. THANK YOU! The message you are sending to boards and organizations in our community is making a huge impact.”
